First State Auctions
ABOUT FIRST STATE AUCTIONS

Since holding our first auction in Sydney, Australia, back in 1995, First State Auctions has set the benchmark by which all fine jewellery auctions are measured.

Our business was built on quality, with the founders being gemmologists and diamond graders. The first auction house of its kind in the market, First State answered a need for quality jewellery at bargain prices. Our growth has been strong: we remain no.1 in the industry, with jewellery and diamond auctions in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Canberra, as well as New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

All our stock comes from commercial or government sources, and we are proud to represent the Commonwealth of Australia and Australian Federal Police and Australian Customs and Border Protection Service in the sale of seized, recovered or unclaimed jewellery.

From the start, we have strived to be first in quality, first in service, and ultimately, the first destination for fine jewellery. Our auctions have an exciting and fun atmosphere – always with the guarantee of variety, friendly staff and plenty of bargains!

WHAT SETS US APART

At First State Auctions, we see ourselves as ‘the genuine article’ – quality and integrity that CAN be proven.

Here is what sets First State Auctions apart:

  • First State has its own qualified gemmologists and diamond graders on staff. (in fact 3 gemmologists & 11 diamond graders)
  • All jewellery and gemstones are thoroughly inspected for authenticity by our team, allowing for an unconditional guarantee of the catalogue description.
  • We will only use the most internationally renowned laboratories for our diamond certification – GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and Gem Studies Laboratory (Australia).
  • All single diamonds over 1ct are sold with a Laboratory Report, where the diamond has been graded loose – allowing for greater accuracy.
  • Ethically, we do not sell jewellery with valuation reports – they often inflate prices and can mislead the market.
